Joelle Douthit will be demonstrating professional quality framing suitable for galleries and juried shows! Joelle has worked in custom framing for six years at Hartung Gallery in Portsmouth, VA. She’ll be discussing components and levels of quality, choices for framing with conservation in mind, what materials and techniques to avoid, and choosing the most suitable colors of matboard and frames. Specific choices for framing canvases, watercolors, and soft pastels will be discussed, as well as any general flat artworks. Demonstrations will include at least one best practice method of attaching art and discussing other safe methods and materials, and she will frame at least one piece from beginning to end. Hartung Gallery has agreed to graciously loan matboard and frame samples for this demonstration.
This is a demonstration only, packed with valuable tips and processes. It’s geared towards artists, but anyone who wants to improve their DIY framing skills is absolutely welcome!
