Suffolk Center for Cultural Arts has partnered with Young Audiences of Virginia and Sylvan Learning to bring summer camps to the children of Suffolk! Summer camp offerings include week-long camps focusing on Art, Theatre, Music, or S.T.E.A.M topics.
With the help of Young Audiences of Virginia’s professional artists, students explore Suffolk’s history, nature, industry, and key players as they learn the fundamentals of drawing, painting, animation, grid art, and paper maché. Students will work together in teams to research and create pieces of art intertwined with stories from Suffolk’s history.
Art Camp takes students on a journey to discovering the who’s, what’s, when’s, where’s and how’s of Suffolk. From its original founding in 1646 as Nansemond County to its consolidation in 1974. Suffolk’s story is one of beauty, resilience, and agriculture. This camp allows students to learn through art about Suffolk and its rich land, woods, lakes, rivers, rolling terrain, and the people who worked hard to forge our wonderful city into the special place that it is today.
Sylvan Learning has joined with Suffolk Center to provide a week-long trip of a lifetime! Students will uncover exciting S.T.E.A.M. topics such as Lego Robotics and Lego Engineering. They will explore the world of video games and graphic design, all while learning a new language, video coding! They will improve their problem-solving skills as we engage in fun and challenging math concepts taught using the arts and movement!
The upcoming Summer Camp schedule will be announced in Spring. Stay tuned for more information!
