If you want to try oils and are new to painting, new to oils, or just need a refresher on the basics of painting, this two part series is a great place to start. Fundamentals in Oil is divided into a 4 week part A which includes an introduction to painting, discovering your painting goals and the “why” behind painting. We continue with lessons on composition, drawing, underpaintings, value, and an intro to color and temperature. Sign up for Part B for another 4 weeks expanding on color and color mixing, starting a painting with large shapes, the progression of laying down paint, and brushwork. With a small class size, you will get personal attention and help from instructor, Beth Blanchard. Fundamentals in Oil will prepare you for the Intermediate Oil Painting Class which will build upon these painting principles. All painting supplies are included in the cost of the class, but students are welcome to bring (but not required) their own brushes including a hogs hair bristle round brush size 8, two synthetic flat brushes size 2 and 6, and two 8×10 canvas panels or stretched canvas.
