Job Title: Summer Camp Instructor/Instructor’s Assistant

Compensation: $530 – $625 / Week

Job Description

The Suffolk Center for Cultural Arts (SCCA) is looking for Summer Art Camp Instructors to join us to participate in our Summer Camps during June and August. We are looking for creative individuals who have experience working with children ages 7 through 15. The summer camp instructor must commit to at least 1 full week. The person in this position will serve as a positive role model, while leading the group of campers and ensuring their well-being and enjoyment at SCCA’s summer camps.

The ideal candidate will possess a great passion for working with children, strong leadership skills and will be committed to creating an enjoyable and fulfilling experience.

Soon-to-graduate students in the Fine Arts, Arts Education, or Education are heavily encouraged to apply.

This is a contracted position from 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM (or until the last camper in the camp has been picked up, if the camp director is not able to do so). All individuals working in this program will be required to have a background check.

Qualifications:

  • Be at least 18 years old.
  • Have a high school diploma.
  • Enjoy working with children.
  • Be creative and enthusiastic about art and working with others.
  • Have reliable transportation.

Responsibilities:

  • Implement art activities planned by SCCA.
  • Create a fun and inviting environment for children.
  • Be prepared to teach campers in a variety of art mediums.
  • Be prepared to teach students to think critically about their artwork.
  • Maintain an organized and inviting studio, while also caring for the equipment and materials provided at camp.
  • Supervise and ensure the safety of campers during activities and throughout the camp day.
  • Foster a positive camp culture by promoting teamwork, respect, and inclusion among campers.
  • Be prepared to assist with cleaning up at the end of each camp day.
  • Attend camp instructor training meeting prior to each camp.

Camp Dates:

  • June 23 – June 27
  • August 7 – August 8

The Suffolk Center for Cultural Arts is the premier visual and performing arts venue for Suffolk and Western Tidewater.
