- The Center was recognized for its work in advancing the synergy of arts and education through effective partnerships with schools, and won the prestigious Dominion ArtStar – Rising Star Award 2014 for its Student Matinees & Artists in Schools Program. Only two arts organizations throughout Virginia are presented with this honor each year.
- About 35,000 people visit the Center annually. Approximately 10,000 of these visitors are youth under the age of 18.
- Approximately 650 artists participate each year at the Center.
- Annually, the Center hosts about 30 professional performances, 6 gallery exhibits including 2 student art exhibits, a speakers series, free concerts and several movies in partnership with Suffolk Tourism. New this year, the Center will host casual events “Downstairs at the Center” featuring a comedy show and a county music dance.
- The Center collaborates with many partners to bring free and relevant programs to our community.
- The Center offers over 100 classes and workshops annually and four summer camps: Art, Music, S.T.E.A.M., and, Theater in partnership with Arts for Learning
- The Center focuses on youth arts education and annually hosts student matinee performances for area schools and community members directly correlated to Virginia’s SOL’s.
- The Center takes visiting artists to the schools and community venues through the “Artists in Schools” program.
- The Center donates back to the community through scholarships, grants for use of the building and absorbs costs to offer free or discounted programming.
- The Center is housed in a historic landmark – 1922 building.
- The Center has a $1.2 million budget; over 40% of income is from private donations.
- The Center provides a platform for local students and school orchestras to perform before professional shows.
- The Center offers quality art exhibits for student field trips and Student Art Exhibits.
