Suffolk Center for Cultural Arts is excited to present A Tribute to Peace Art exhibition!

In challenging times, honoring peace, and tranquility through art is the focus of this exhibit.  Artists’ works will feature two-and three-dimensional pieces that project their visions of peacefulness, whether it be a bright and cheerful landscape, a colorful floral, or a portrait of someone in a tranquil pose.

This art exhibition welcomes the Kyiv City Ballet of Ukraine to the Suffolk Center for their residency September 19-22, 2022.

The reception and art exhibition are FREE and open to the Public Tuesdays – Saturdays, 10 AM – 4 PM.

Surf & Sounds of Summer is an exhibit of artwork that exemplifies positive summer experiences. Crashing Waves, sounds of seagulls, children laughing, boats bobbing in the ocean, people fishing and crabbing, picnics of corn on the cob, watermelon, hotdogs, and ice cream—these are just some of the images depicted in the artwork for this exhibit that captures the essence of summer. ‘After seeing all the beautiful summer themed artwork, I was transported back to my childhood and fond memories of our family trips to the beach.” shared Rick Byrd.

Beginning Techniques in PMC (Copper)

Class Description:  This introductory class is an adventure in working with precious metal clay.  Art Clay Copper is a great product specially formulated for objects that can be created and fired on the same day with outstanding results.  Art Clay Copper is pure copper mixed with water and an organic binder.  It is soft and easy to work with simple tools.  Once it is fired at 1778 degrees for 30 minutes the product is pure Copper.  Art Clay Copper projects can be polished, patinated, kiln-fired enameled, and/or torch enameled. 

The creative possibilities are endless.  Art clay silver and Art clay bronze is also available.  The techniques covered in this class include how to manipulate the clay, techniques to make attachments, using a variety of textures and molds, finishing, sanding techniques, and how to make simple repairs.  We will create a variety of silver jewelry and/or other decorative objects for functional use in other projects.

Art Clay Silver projects can be combined with ceramics, glass fusions, kiln fired enameled, and torch enameled.  The creative possibilities are endless.  Art clay copper is also available.  The techniques covered in this class include how to manipulate the clay, make attachments, using a variety of textures and molds, finishing, sanding techniques, and how to make simple repairs.  Workshop includes all materials and supplies.
