Basket Making – Make Your Own Market Basket

1 Day Class

Class Description:  This class, designed for adults, teaches participants how to weave a market basket with natural and dyed rattan.  (All rectangular baskets are called market baskets.)  No glue.  No nails.  No tacks.  Learn how to lay a spoke base, weave a locking row, then weave up the sides.  It is that easy!  This workshop is perfect for the basket weaving novice who starts the workshop being inquisitive and leaves with a completed basket!  You will be the envy of your friends!  All materials needed included in the registration fee.

Basket Making for Kids! – Create a Wheelin’ Tote

1 Day Class

Class Description:  Learn how to weave a solid bottom tote basket.  Learn how to lay a solid base, weave a locking row and the sides of this popular basket style.  After constructing the basket, you will create the Cherokee Wheels and make a handle for your basket from Shaker Tape.  Even to this day, all baskets available are still made by hand.  This class is designed for children and provides them step-by-step instruction. All materials needed included in the registration fee.

For Coil Building                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                       You will learn the basic skills for coil building. Techniques will involve rolling and extruding coils of clay. Coiled pots are constructed by gradually stacking and joining coils of clay one on top of the other. By manipulating and joining together to form a finished object.

For Extruding Building
You will learn how to assemble the extruder correctly. Will use clay straight out of the bag or use well wedged clay. Learn how to use the extruder correctly. Learn how to put extruded pieces together to make finished projects

Black & White Darkroom Photography

Eight – Week Class

Class Description:  In this class, you will learn how to use a 35mm film camera.  You will learn how to load the film, how to develop black and white film using developing chemistry, and how to use an enlarger in the darkroom to develop a paper photographic print in chemistry.  Mixing the chemistry to develop the file and paper prints and using filters to increase contrast.  You will need a 35mm film camera for this class.  If you do not have one, you can find very inexpensive cameras on E-bay starting at $25.00.  All materials needed included (except the camera) in the registration fee.

Classical Expression Painting

Class Description:  This creatively inspired class will take an interesting look at various Masterpiece works of art.  Each participant will be assigned a section of the Masterpiece to recreate with their interpretation by using various drawing and painting skills.  The result will be a larger-than-life recreation of the Masterpiece.  This is a class for anyone who loves art and classic Masterpieces regardless of their painting and drawing skills.  A student supply list is provided below.  Please bring these materials to the first class

Class Description:  In this class, you will learn about fill flash, studio-style lighting, how to create depth with flash, lightboxes vs. umbrellas, multiple flashes, lighting ratio, shutter speed sync, dragging the shutter and so much more!  You will also learn what to look for when considering purchasing flash, diffusers, reflectors, cardboard, paint, and light.  No prior knowledge or experience required.

Drawing as Illustration

8 Week Class

Class Description:  In this featured course of illustration, students will learn to illustrate their own character (be it a superhero or fan fiction-inspired character based on an existing one, etc.).  Students will learn the fundamental basics of drawing the face, facial expressions, and then the basics of the body.  Students will learn and understand the dynamism and action poses of their character, as well as the importance of “element” and “personality”.  Students will need to bring paper (minimum size 8 x 10), No. 2 pencils, eraser, and pencil sharpener for the first day of class.  A drawing board is optional.

Class Description:  This class is freestyle and yet structured with a variety of mediums, a series of everyday subjects, graduating into shading, and lighting techniques.  This is a beginner class that will teach the Fundamentals of Drawing using many types of pencils, charcoals, and graphite on different textures and weights of papers.  The student supply list is provided below.  Please bring these materials to the first class.  These items may be purchased on amazon.com as a drawing kit.

Learn the art of glass blowing with one of  Virginia’s most respected glass craftsmen.  Spend one hour creating your very own glass-blown piece of artwork. You will be able to work with a professional glass artist. Neil Duman shows his love for art through his flowing designs of colorful glass. These symmetrical works portray visions of beauty and relaxation that will catch the eye as light projects through them.  Children ages 10+ must have a parent or guardian with them during the duration of the class.
