Class Description:
What is relief printmaking? Learn the basics of this fun, approachable art medium. We’ll talk about what printmaking is, learn about printmaking tools, and create at least two prints. We’llbe using plants and flowers as subjects, but feel free to bring your own designs of whatever you like! We’ll also have designs on hand, if you prefer. We’ll use easy carve blocks, soft and perfect for beginners.
All supplies are provided, but please note this workshop does involve the use of sharp tools. Beginners are welcome — no prior experience required!
Meet the Instructor:
Joelle Douthit is a multi-media artist primarily working in printmaking, oil paints, and watercolors, chasing natural forms, overlooked details, and has fun with fantasy structures. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Old Dominion University, and has appeared in juried shows and galleries around Hampton Roads. She particularly loves sharing her joy in color, line, and composition, and will happily talk about art, design, and supplies, anytime. Joelle has taught private art lessons for several years, and her particular passion in teaching is to spark seeing the world deeply and equipping students with the tools to express it. Joelle is currently working on series featuring untraditional flower perspectives, and fantasy archetypes. She lives in Suffolk, VA with her family, cats, art supplies, and books.
